MANILA--The PBA trade committee gave Blackwater and Rain Or Shine the green light to push through with the Miggy Corteza trade.
On Wednesday, the league approved the Bossing's acquisition of the six-foot-three forward, one of three second-round picks selected by the Elasto Painters during Sunday's draft.
In exchange, ROS acquired one of Blackwater's two second-round picks for the PBA Season 51 Draft set for 2026, formerly owned by TNT.
Elasto Painters head coach Yeng Guiao said on Thursday that he was open to shipping a second-round pick elsewhere due to a lack of available roster spots in his team loaded with young players.
Corteza was not seen when the Welcoat franchise posted a video highlight of its rookie acquisitions during their return to practice on Tuesday, hinting that he was made aware of the then-pending trade, which was reportedly agreed upon on Sunday.
During the past two NCAA seasons, Corteza was among the key players during the College of St. Benilde's quest for championship glory, although the team fell short on both occasions.
Corteza will shore up the Bossing's wing rotation as they look to make a playoff return in the upcoming PBA Governors' Cup after blowing their chances during the Philippine Cup.
