Christantus Uche silenced Bilbao with an equalizer right in his top-flight debut. La Liga |
MANILA--A pair of 1-1 draws highlighted the opening day of La Liga EA Sports early Friday (Philippine Time).
The 2024-2025 season officially began with Athletic Bilbao and Getafe settling for a stalemate at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao.
Oihan Sancet opened the scoring for the home side with a 27th-minute goal, but Christantus Uche, playing in his first-ever first-division match, scored the equalizer in the 64th minute as Getafe did not leave Bilbao empty-handed.
“He’s a great talent who’s going to contribute a lot,” Getafe goalkeeper David Soria said about Uche, who last season played for third-division club Ceuta.
“He has to adapt to the step up to the top division, but he’s comfortably playing where the manager puts him.”
Real Betis and Girona then battled to their own 1-1 tie later in the night at the Benito Villamarin Stadium in Seville.
Marc Bantra made Betis fans happy early on with a sixth-minute goal only for Gabriel Mishouy to equalize in the 72nd minute.
The opening week of the La Liga EA Sports season will see teams play in doubleheaders within five consecutive days.
