MANILA--Carlos Yulo, arguably the superstar for the Philippine team this Paris Olympics, and Aira Villegas will carry the Philippine flag in the event's closing ceremonies early Monday (Philippine Time) at the Stade De France in Saint-Denis.
As announced on Saturday, the national team agreed that Yulo, who made history as the first Filipino to win multiple Olympic golds, and Villegas, who won a medal in only her Olympic debut, should hold the Three Stars and a Sun in the Paris Olympic finale.
A total of 10 athletes will be in the 20-person Philippine delegation for the closing rites, the rest being Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam, the flag bearers during the opening ceremonies, Hergie Bacyadan, Eumir Marcial, Lauren Hoffman, John Ceniza, Elreen Ando, and Vanessa Sarno.
Golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina, despite finishing their campaign on Saturday, are not joining the closing ceremonies as it stands.
The 2024 Paris Games marked the centennial of the Philippines' Olympic participation, and the Filipinos finished their campaign with what would now be their best performance ever with two golds, both from Yulo, and two bronzes, courtesy of Villegas and Petecio.
