MANILA--Patrick Cabahug caught fire in the Thailand Basketball League, leading Korat CK T-Rex to a 164-119 blowout win against the Khaoyai Chichi Wild Catz on Wednesday night at the Chandrakasem Rajabhat University Gym in Bangkok.
Cabahug, who last suited up domestically for the Valenzuela Classic in the MPBL before continuing his pro career in Thailand, exploded for 83 points, which made up more than half of the T-Rex's total points.
The former Adamson star also flirted with a double-double after tallying nine rebounds alongside four assists and three steals.
Entering the game with averages of 22 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, Cabahug nearly quadrupled his points, tripled his rebounds, and doubled his assists in just a single night.
The six-foot-two swingman from Cebu City was a man on a mission on Wednesday night, going 34-of-64 from the field including 14 threes, just three shy of the Philippine pro basketball record set by PBA legend Allan Caidic.
Cabahug's efforts were enough for the TBL to name him as its Player of the Week for Week 2 of the season.
Cabahug's career game turned out to be his biggest showing in the 40-year-old's comeback bid after suffering from Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
The MPBL, through its MPBL Kalinga program, helped in providing medical support for Cabahug last year.
Ukrainian import Dmytro Tychonov added 31 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, and one steal, while Chalormdech Limsuwan put up 15 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals for Korat.
Marcy Arellano also came close with a double-double with 10 points and nine assists alongside two rebounds.
Khaoyai was led by its three Filipino imports, Andrian Celada, Kelly Nabong, and Joshua Saret, who combined for 78 points.
