MANILA--During Day 8 of the ongoing Paris Olympics, John Cabang Tolentino suddenly announced his withdrawal from joining the repechage round of the 110-meter hurdle which is set later Tuesday through his official Instagram account.

On his IG story, he said, "I am sorry. I'm not gonna able to run due to an injury."

Tolentino was relegated to the repechage round after clocking 13.66 seconds and finishing in 6th place in Heat 4 of the preliminaries on Sunday at the Stade De France, which was not supplemental for him to advance to the semifinal round.

"Thank you to all the people who supported me. Laban Pilipinas!" he ended.

With Tolentino backing out, the Philippine athletic team remains without an Olympic medal in the post-war era.

The development also came hours after EJ Obiena's heartbreaking fourth-place finish in the men's pole vault finals.
