QUEZON CITY--Ato Barba capped a clutch moment for Lyceum with a go-ahead three to give his team a 97-92 win against Jose Rizal University in their NCAA men's basketball clash on Sunday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Barba hit a long triple with 26.4 seconds left that broke a 92-all tie that he too forced with two free throws at the 1:03 mark of the fourth quarter.
Joshua Guiab decided for a quick three to force another deadlock, but he badly missed the attempt and Vincent Cunanan hit two more free throws to seal the Pirates' game-ending 7-0 run.
Barba fired 28 points with five rebounds and three assists as Lyceum won for the first time this season after a 0-2 start, while Cunanan added 20 points, two rebounds, four assists, and five steals.
Jonathan Medina put up 22 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks, while Guiab had 20 points, seven rebounds, one assist, and one block for JRU, which dropped to 0-3.
