MANILA––College of St. Benilde banked on the heroics of Jhomel Ancheta to stun San Beda, 70-65, in their much anticipated NCAA men's basketball clash on Tuesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Ancheta, the former Centro Escolar University King Scorpion, showed that he feels at home now with the Blazers as he shot a go-ahead three late into regulation that could have won it already for them outright if not for Yukien Andrada's layup that sent the game, already tagged as a potential preview of the finals, to extension.

Ancheta, though, was not yet done as he opened the free basketball session with five straight points right in the very first minute to open a 65-60 lead.

Tony Ynot then hit a pick-and-pop three even as Allen Liwag hit a putback to virtually ice it for CSB as San Beda's struggles from the free throw line in overtime hurt its bid in the end.

Ancheta finished with 14 points, two rebounds, and five assists for the Blazers, who moved up to 2-0 in the standings.

Ynot, playing against his former team, added 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and one steal, while Liwag chipped in 12 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, and three blocks.

Bryan Sajonia made 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one steal for the Red Lions, who dropped to 1-1.
