PBA: Meralco reclaims Group A top spot with rout vs Converge

QUEZON CITY—Meralco is back in solo first place in Group A of the PBA Governors' Cup after drubbing Converge, 116-88, on Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After the FiberXers took control of the first quarter, the Bolts stomped their dominance in the next two periods, holding them to only 18 points in the second quarter before erupting for 33 in the third quarter to pull away from there.

Anjo Caram was adjudged the best player for Meralco, which ended the first round of eliminations at 4-1, with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting including 4-of-4 on threes, 11 came in the third quarter.

"In the third quarter, we went to our bread and butter, which is AD (Allen Durham), and they were focusing on him with their defense. And nalibre yung mga shooters namin," Caram said.

Durham led the Bolts with 27 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, one steal, and one block, while Chris Banchero added 24 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Scotty Hopson put up 33 points, six rebounds, six assists, and one block for the FiberXers, who fell to 2-3.
