MANILA--With the team slumping after a 3-0 start, NLEX pulled the plug on Myke Henry as he will be replaced by Dequan Jones for the rest of the PBA Governors' Cup.
The Road Warriors made the shift official on Thursday pending an official height measurement from the PBA.
Jones, who played his rookie year with the Orlando Magic before going overseas for the rest of his career, last played for the Shiga Lakes for the remainder of the 2022-2023 Japan B.League season.
No less than former Road Warrior and Lakestar Kiefer Ravena referred the 34-year-old veteran to the NLEX management.
"With DeQuan, we gain an experienced player who has played all over the world. He will help us rally and secure a spot in the playoffs,” said NLEX head coach Jong Uichico.
If the Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters head coach Yeng Guiao's calculation is correct, the Road Warriors virtually need to sweep all their remaining games to make the crossover quarterfinals outright.
NLEX will play ROS on Tuesday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, where Jones and Javee Mocon, once they get cleared, could make their Road Warriors debut.
NLEX will then play Phoenix on Sept. 20 and Ginebra on Sept. 22.
The Road Warriors could still activate Henry if they want to as he was placed on their injured reserve list.
He had a quiet 17 points but had a solid all-around game with six rebounds, six assists, and one block against the San Miguel Beermen in their rematch on Wednesday night.
