MANILA--Another down-the-wire Converge game, another Scotty Hopson winner.
In what could possibly be his last game with the FiberXers, Hopson gave them one lasting memory, hitting a game-winning four to lead them to a 100-99 win against the also-ran Terrafirma Dyip in their PBA Governors' Cup game on Saturday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Similar to his game-winner in the first round against TNT, Hopson drove into the deep right wing and hit the four-pointer with 2.5 seconds left.
Antonio Hester tried to steal the win for Terrafirma, but he missed a floater as time ran out.
"It's nice that the guys didn't give up," said head coach Franco Atienza, whose FiberXers squad fought back from seven points down with a 10-2 run within the final 1:40 of the game.
Schonny Winston led the now 4-4 Converge squad, which opened a one-game lead against NorthPort for fourth place in Group A with 19 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
Hopson, who is nursing a hamstring injury, added 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and one block, and his clutch heroics gave the FiberXers some time to think if they will still take a chance on him or push through with an import change with former NBA player Jalen Jones reportedly set to take his place.
Hester's second straight explosive game of 28 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, and one steal went down the drain once more as Terrafirma lost again on a game-winner and a missed buzzer-beater and dropped to 0-8.
Worse, Christian Standhardinger will join Juami Tiongson among those ruled out for the rest of the conference due to a knee injury.
