QUEZON CITY--The UAAP announced that transferee athletes from one member school to another will have the same residency period but will lose two years of eligibility.

Following the exodus in the past few months, UAAP executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag confirmed during the collegiate basketball press conference on Wednesday at the Novotel Hotel that the new eligibility rule will begin taking effect in the academic year 2024-2025 or this upcoming Season 87.

Earlier this year, some players made headlines as they transferred from one school to another, including Noy Remogat to the University of the Philippines and Kean Baclaan, Luis Pablo, and Mason Amos to La Salle, among others.

Apart from the new residency rule, basketball commissioner Xavy Nunag told the press that there will be no other policy changes for UAAP Season 87.

"We're making sure that the consistent enforcement of these rules is going to be applied throughout this season to ensure fairness and quality of games," said Nunag.

UAAP collegiate basketball will tip off this Saturday featuring the "Battle of Katipunan" between the Fighting Maroons, the Season 87 hosts, against the Ateneo Blue Eagles at 6:30 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
