Patryk Klimala's brace lifted Sydney past Kaya Iloilo. AFC |
MANILA—Patryk Klimala took over for Sydney in the second half as the A-League outfit spoiled Daizo Horikoshi's first match back in the Philippines and beat Kaya Iloilo, 4-1, in their AFC Champions League 2 battle on Thursday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The former Polish U21 team member, who once had stints with Scottish giant Celtic and MLS contender New York Red Bulls, struck his brace in the second half, breaking the 1-1 halftime deadlock.
Klimala put Sydney ahead with a 59th-minute goal before completing his brace in the 63rd minute to make it 3-1.
Nathan Amantidis buried the dagger goal right before the final whistle for Sydney.
Sydney actually blundered early on as Horikoshi struck the opening goal for Kaya Iloilo in the third minute, but Joseph Lolley equalized in the 26th minute, setting up the Australian club's breakaway.
Sydney remains perfect with the full six points in Group E, while Kaya Iloilo remained without a point two matches into its ACL 2 campaign.
Counting a 7-0 blowout by Neil Etheridge and Buriram in the Shopee Cup, Kaya Iloilo remained winless after three games in all competition as an early PFL grudge match against Davao Aguilas awaits them on Sunday night back at the said pitch.
