Meralco whips Macau for 1st EASL win

PASAY--Meralco made quick work of EASL newcomer Macau for a 97-85 win in their opening night game on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Behind a balanced attack led by Chris Newsome, the Bolts romped the Black Bears as their second stint in the regional league began on a high note.

Newsome finished with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting including 4-of-6 from deep, three rebounds, six assists, and three steals for Meralco.

Imports Allen Durham and DJ Kennedy each added 17 points with Durham grabbing 10 rebounds.

Will Artino and Jeantal Cylla each tallied 23 markers with Artino also tallying 14 rebounds for Macau, the runner-up in the Zamboanga leg of TAT.

Damian Chong-Qui added 21 points, three rebounds, and four assists.
