MANILA--For the first time ever, a Philippine professional basketball league is playing the start of its championship series overseas.

The MPBL announced on Tuesday that Games 1 and 2 of its national finals will take place at Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall in Dubai on Dec. 1 and 3.

This is the second time the MPBL will hold games in Dubai, having already played there in 2019.

This time, though, the games that will be played in the said emirate will be more crucial as they are championship matches themselves.

The league will release the remainder of the best-of-five national finals at a later date with Game 3 to be played in the higher-ranked finalist's home arena.

The MPBL is currently in its divisional semifinal phase with the division finals projected to take place by the middle of November.

Batangas City, one of the three teams that played in the 2019 MPBL Dubai games, is still in contention but is down 0-1 in the South semis against South Cotabato with Game 2 set for Monday night at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum.
