Gab Cometa stepped up off the bench for CSB. NCAA |
MANILA––College of St. Benilde sizzled early on and ripped Jose Rizal University, 84-69, in their NCAA clash on Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
The Blazers, who lost Tony Ynot to an ankle injury after only 22 seconds, were still too much for the Heavy Bombers, opening a 55-29 halftime lead.
Although JRU got their offense going in the second half, it was not enough to overcome the huge lead of CSB, which already blew a 26-point lead this season.
Jhomel Ancheta made 17 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal to lead the Blazers, which ended the first round on top of the standings at 7-2.
Gab Cometa contributed 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals off the bench, while Allen Liwag, Mark Sangco, and Justine Sanchez each added 12 points with Sangco grabbing 10 rebounds.
Joshua Guiab fired 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal for the Heavy Bombers, who dropped to 3-6.
