NCAA: San Beda stifles Perpetual Help to inch closer in Top 2 race

MANILA—San Beda turned to its defense the rest of the way to cripple Perpetual Help 57-53, in a crucial NCAA second-round game on Friday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Held to only eight points in the first quarter, the Red Lions responded by limiting the Altas to only seven points in the second quarter to open a 29-26 halftime lead.

San Beda continued its solid defense on Perpetual Help in the second half to remain in control of the game.

Yuki Andrada led the Red Lions, who moved up to 8-4, with 21 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal, while Bismarck Lina added nine points, six rebounds, and two assists.

They are now a half-game behind the Mapua Cardinals for second place and a full game back of the College of St. Benilde Blazers for the top spot.

Mark Gojo Cruz paced the Altas, who dropped to 5-7, with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
