No UAAP football, but Kaya Iloilo-HK Eastern clash pushes through amid 'Kristine'

By Ivan Saldajeno

BINAN--Bad news, good news for football fans.

First, the already-expected bad news: the UAAP called off its scheduled Thursday games, primarily in football, as severe tropical storm "Kristine" is projected to make landfall in the next few hours.

University of the Philippines was scheduled to face La Salle at the former's turf, the UP Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.

At the same time, the University of the East was supposed to face off against Ateneo in the nightcap.

The UAAP announced that both matches will be played on Sunday night also at the UP Diliman turf.

However, while amateur football has been washed up by Kristine, the AFC Champions League is pushing through with its Division 2 match between Kaya Iloilo and Hong Kong Eastern at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

In anticipation that the weather will become better as Kristine makes its way out of the country, the pro football clash will not be postponed and will kick off as scheduled at 8 p.m.

Kaya Iloilo coach Yu Hoshide said that the wet pitch would be beneficial to his club come Thursday night.

"We are used to even training here, so even [when it's] rainy and sunny, it doesn't matter. We are at an advantage. We have a home advantage, so we have to use that formal advantage for tomorrow," Hoshide said.
