TAGUIG—The PBA Board of Governors is extending its help to those affected by severe tropical storm "Kristine" by donating ticket sales for the upcoming Governors' Cup Finals opener.
No less than the top two officers of the PBA board, chairman Ricky Vargas of TNT and vice chairman Alfrancis Chua of Ginebra, announced during the press conference ahead of the best-of-seven championship series between the two teams on Thursday at Enderun College that proceeds from Sunday night's Game 1 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo will be donated to the storm's victims.
"Lahat yon, ido-donate namin," Chua said.
"We are entrusting the proceeds to Alagang Kapatid [Foundation]," Vargas added.
Tropang Giga head coach Chot Reyes then said that he would call on all the former Gilas Pilipinas players to raise a donation too for the cyclone's victims which will be donated via Alagang Kapatid as well.
Gin Kings LA Tenorio, who played for the national team last decade, and Japeth Aguilar, still part of the Gilas pool, will spearhead the donation drive.
The entire Luzon mainland has been hit by Kristine with the Bicol Region being the one most damaged.
The storm already made landfall in Isabela earlier in the day and is expected to be in the West Philippine Sea later or early Friday.
Kristine forced the postponement of both the NCAA and UAAP's scheduled midweek games in basketball, men's football, and high school volleyball.
However, the MPBL playoff game between South Cotabato and Binan at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, which is still under storm signal number 2, and the TAT Winter Tournament Leg 1 at the City of Passi Arena, which is still under signal number 1, pushed through on Wednesday night.
