MANILA--La Salle head coach Topex Robinson and University of the Philippines player Reyland Torres were spared a heavier penalty and only got warned sternly by the UAAP for sparking a heated altercation that occurred midway through the third quarter of their game on Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

The commotion, which was witnessed by 16,106 paying patrons, was sparked when DLSU head coach Topex Robinson and UP’s Reyland Torres exchanged words, eventually prompting both benches to get involved.

According to Torres, Robinson allegedly spat on his shoulder during the exchange, but the coach denied the accusation, stating that they merely exchanged words.

During the one-week break, the UAAP basketball commissioner's office investigated the incident thoroughly.

In their official statement, they concluded that there was insufficient evidence to support the spitting accusation.

As a result, both parties were only reprimanded: Torres for getting too close to Robinson on two occasions, and Robinson for using language unbecoming of a coach.

Any future unsportsmanlike conduct from either party will result in stricter penalties per UAAP and FIBA regulations.

With no suspensions meted out, both Robinson and Torres are eligible to see action for their respective teams this weekend.
