Shuto Komaki staggered Sanfrecce Hiroshima with the opening goal for Kaya Iloilo. AFC |
MANILA—Kaya Iloilo denied Sanfrecce Hiroshima of a chance to sweep Group E of the AFC Champions League 2 group stages after both clubs fought to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Kaya Iloilo actually had a shot at beating Sanfrecce Hiroshima at home as Shuto Komaki opened the scoring with an 18th-minute goal and looked poised to hold on for most of the contest.
However, Aren Inoue struck back for Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the 68th minute to eventually force the draw.
Despite staying unbeaten with four wins and one draw, Sanfrecce Hiroshima dropped points for the first time in the first season of the new second-tier continental competition.
Meanwhile, Kaya Iloilo, despite getting eliminated from knockout phase contention, ended the night in third place following Sydney's 4-1 win at Hong Kong Eastern.
