MANILA--Suwon banked on Heo Hoon's heroics to spoil Ethan Alvano's explosion and beat Wonju, 80-78, in their KBL battle on Saturday at the Suwon KT Sonicboom Arena.
Heo scored a layup with 24 seconds left that put the Sonicboom ahead, 79-78, while Ha Yun-Gi blocked Kang Sang-Jae's layup attempt that could have given the Promy the lead back in the next play.
Rayshaun Hammonds thought he kept the door open for Wonju to steal the win as he missed two free throws off Kang's foul, but the ball still ended up with Hammonds after a rebounding scramble.
Heo then split his charities for the final count as Yoo Hyun-Joon's desperation heave failed to hit the mark as time expired.
Heo finished with 27 points, two rebounds, six assists, and five steals, while Hammonds added 20 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal for Suwon, which moved up to 4-2.
Alvano's 25-point blast with two rebounds, four assists, and two steals fell short as Wonju dropped further to 1-5.
Chinanu Onuaku added 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, 14 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and one steal.
Meanwhile, Anyang completed a comeback from a late eight-point deficit to steal a 72-71 win against Ulsan at the Dongchun Gymnasium in Ulsan.
The Red Boosters finished the game on an 11-2 run within the final 3:45 capped by Caddy Lalanne's go-ahead basket to steal the road win from the Mobis Phoebus.
Gaige Prim had a chance to win it for Ulsan at home, but he fumbled the inbound pass and was called for a backcourt violation with 0.3 seconds left.
Park Ji-Hoon led the Red Boosters, who moved up to 2-4, with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Bae Byung-Jun added 19 points on 7-for-11 field goals, two rebounds, and one assist.
Prim had 18 points, eight rebounds, and one steal, while Lee Woo-Suk added 12 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals for the Mobis Phoebus, who fell to 3-2.
Both teams' Filipino stalwarts, Javi Gomez De Liano and Migs Oczon, were relatively quiet as Gomez De Liano only had three points for Anyang, and Oczon tallied four for Ulsan, although Oczon also had five rebounds and five assists.
