NCAA: EAC joins Lyceum in 4th ahead of crucial Tuesday clash, eliminates Arellano

MAKATI––Emilio Aguinaldo College forced a tie with Lyceum for fourth place in the NCAA standings with a huge collision coming up by drubbing Arellano, 69-59, on Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

The Generals nipped the Chiefs in the fourth quarter, holding them to only nine points even as a late three from King Gurtiza completed the shutdown.

Harvey Pagsanjan led EAC, now at 8-8 along with Lyceum, with 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block.

Gurtiza added 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and one block, while Gelo Loristo chipped in 10 points, 11 rebounds, and one block.

The Generals and the Pirates will face off on Tuesday with the winner gaining a huge advantage in the race for the last Final Four spot.

T-Mac Ongotan put up 14 points, nine rebounds, one assist, and two blocks for Arellano, which dropped to 6-10.

With the Generals-Pirates game assuring that one of them will have nine wins at least, the Chiefs are now out of Final Four contention.

In the process, San Beda sealed a spot in the Final Four since the Tuesday game also means either EAC or Lyceum falls to fifth place with nine losses.

The Red Lions have a chance to eliminate the reeling Letran Knights from playoff contention when they face off on Sunday.
