MANILA—With a trigger that's hard to dodge, Weljon "Triggerman" Mindoro maintained his unbeaten streak on Sunday (Philippine Time), delivering a decisive third-round knockout against Brazil’s Lucas de Abreu at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.

The 24-year-old Mindoro, who hails from Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur, took control early in the fight, applying steady pressure from the opening round.

Known for his heavy hands, Mindoro’s strategy relied on his right hand to set up scoring opportunities, often throwing multiple-punch combinations to keep de Abreu on the defensive and allowing himself to dominate from the offset.

The second round marked a turning point, as Mindoro’s relentless offense forced de Abreu to the canvas twice.

With 24 seconds remaining in the round, a quick left jab followed by an overhand right sent the Brazilian to one knee.

Moments after he returned to his feet, another right hook from Mindoro caused a second knockdown, giving de Abreu a preview of the punishment to come.

Twenty-five seconds into the third round, Mindoro capitalized on his momentum, unleashing a thunderous overhand right that struck de Abreu squarely, dropping him decisively and prompting referee Luis Pabon to halt the fight without a count.

The Filipino middleweight prospect improved his record to 13-0-1, with all 13 wins achieved by knockout, reinforcing his reputation as a power puncher in the division.

On the other hand, De Abreu, who entered the bout with a respectable record of 14 wins (11 KOs) and six losses, struggled to contain Mindoro’s offensive style and found himself overwhelmed by the third.

Mindoro’s previous U.S. appearance saw him notch another early finish, with a second-round TKO over England’s Tyler Goodjohn.

Currently based in Bacoor, Cavite, Mindoro is viewed as one of the Philippines' most promising fighters.
