MANILA--It took a career game from Calvin Oftana for TNT to finally win its first game in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.
Oftana fired 42 points to lead the Tropang Giga to a 103-100 victory against the Magnolia Hotshots on Wednesday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The six-foot-five swingman converted 15-of-23 from the field including 9-for-14 from three-point range, itself a career-high too, even as he drained a long-range bomb that essentially iced the game for TNT with a 102-90 lead.
Magnolia finished with a 10-1 run to somehow make things interesting if ever quotients would be in play later in the conference.
Oftana also had seven rebounds and two assists as the Tropang Giga barged into the win column after a 0-2 start.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson added 41 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and one block.
Ricardo Ratliffe led the Hotshots, who dropped to 1-3, with 27 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists.
