MANILA--As he spent some time with his fans during UP Diliman's "Liyab 2024" UAAP championship bonfire event on Monday night at the said campus' Sunken Garden, JD Cagulangan was aware that it would be the last time he gets a chance to see his supporters up close for a while.

The newly crowned UAAP men's basketball finals MVP is set to begin his pro career next year in the KBL, signing with the Suwon KT Sonicboom.

This effectively makes Cagulangan the second collegiate basketball star to turn pro via the KBL route this month, a day after two-time UAAP regular season MVP Kevin Quiambao confirmed his move to the Goyang Sono Skygunners.

It was revealed that Cagulangan thought about staying in the Philippines for his rookie pro year but eventually decided to agree in terms with Suwon.

The Sonicboom, one of two KBL squads also competing in the EASL, currently have a 10-8 record in the domestic league standings, good for fourth place, ahead of a Wednesday night road game in Goyang against the Skygunners.

However, it will not be the first time both teams will parade Cagulangan and Quiambao as both UAAP stars will only take the plane ride to South Korea by next month.

Once he arrives in Suwon, Cagulangan will take over the Asian import quota spot left by Dave Ildefonso and was supposed to be meant for Dalph Panopio if not for a preseason back injury that forced the team to let him go.
