QUEZON CITY--Ethan Alvano along with Chinanu Onuaku put up a stellar performance on a Christmas afternoon in Goyang, but the South Korean city's Skygunners still emerged victorious, 87-81, over the Wonju DB Promy in their KBL clash.
Despite a herculean effort that even saw Alvano, the reigning league MVP, flirting with a triple-double, Wonju could not complete the comeback despite a strong fourth quarter as Goyang, which led by as much as 25 points, survived at home.
Lee Jung-Hyun led the Skygunners, who moved up to 8-13, with 22 points, three rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and two blocks, while Lee Jae-Do and Dwight Burns each tallied 17 markers.
Onuaku put up 26 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, while Alvano added 21 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and two blocks for the Promy, who dropped to seventh place at 10-12 as Busan KCC Egis overtook them for sixth place after giving Javi Gomez De Liano's Anyang Red Boosters a Yuletide nightmare.
Busan blew past Anyang for a 94-68 home win at the Sajik Arena.
The Egis pulled away after holding the Red Boosters to just nine points in the second quarter and 14 in the third despite a close first quarter.
Heo Ung led Busan, now at 10-11, with 26 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Deonte Burton added 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one block.
Cliff Alexander and Park Ji-Hoon each had 11 points, while Gomez De Liano contributed six points on a perfect 3-for-3 clip from inside the arc for Anyang, which fell to 7-15.
