MANILA—Two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao has announced his leap to professional basketball, joining the Goyang Sono Skygunners in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
Quiambao confirmed the development on Monday in a social media post, emphasizing that his KBL stint is part of a larger roadmap to chase his NBA dream.
“My college career comes to an end, [and] I will pursue my NBA dream and start my journey by playing professional ball in Goyang Sono SkyGunners and developing my game even more,” he shared in his most recent Instagram post.
The announcement came a day after Quiambao’s collegiate team, the De La Salle Green Archers, fell short in the UAAP Season 87 Finals.
They lost to the UP Fighting Maroons in a nail-biting Game 3, capping a dramatic season that saw Quiambao shine as a dominant force on the court.
In joining the Skygunners, Quiambao adds his name to the growing list of Filipino basketball stars making waves in the KBL, including Carl Tamayo, Juan and Javi Gomez de Liaño, SJ Belangel, and reigning KBL MVP Ethan Alvano.
Despite their struggles this season—currently sitting at 5-13 and at the bottom of the 10-team standings—the Skygunners are optimistic that Quiambao's versatility and court vision will be a key factor in turning their season around.
The 6’6” forward has consistently proven himself as a high-impact player, combining size, skill, and basketball IQ to dominate games.
With his decision to go pro, Quiambao looks to refine his game further in Korea's competitive league, aiming to eventually make his mark on the world’s biggest basketball stage.
