MANILA--In a plot twist minutes before tip-off, Rain Or Shine had to sit out Deon Thompson for its PBA Commissioner's Cup opener against Meralco.

In a statement, the team said the six-foot-eight forward, who came on to replace original choice Kenneth Kadji, has yet to receive a special work permit that would have cleared him for action on Sunday night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

With the development, the Elasto Painters had no other choice but to play all-Filipino against the Bolts, who were expected to get big numbers from Akil Mitchell.

However, Mitchell left the game early on after he was hit in the face by Keith Datu while going for a layup.

Depending on how hard the foul was, Meralco had to play all-Filipino for the meantime against ROS.

ROS also announced that Gian Mamuyac will miss an indefinite period after fracturing his right hand during a tune-up game.
