MANILA--The resurgence is over, at least in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
RSG announced on Thursday night that it is closing down its entire MLBB arm, effectively disbanding all its three representative clubs in the Malaysian, Singaporean, and Philippine leagues.
"Together we rose, slain our enemies and now we call GG. As we close this chapter, we do not remember the days, but we remember the moments. Thank you for being a part of our journey," RSG, whose name is the shortened version of the organization's old alias Resurgence, said in a short statement.
RSG Philippines rose to prominence by ruling MPL Philippines Season 9, MLBB Southeast Asia Cup 2022, and ONE Esports MPL Invitational 2023.
The team, though, went on a sudden downfall in the second half of 2024.
After finishing third in MPL Philippines Season 13 in the first half of the year, RSG PH struggled in Season 14 and missed the playoffs all along.
They settled for seventh place, casting some uncertainty on the future of the Brian "Panda" Im-coached squad.
More questions were raised when rumors began to swirl over the Christmas season that RSG PH could be letting go of its MPL PH franchise with Team Falcons being the prospective buyer.
Team Falcons recently ended its joint venture with AP Bren.
This decision was prompted by the amended Esports World Cup eligibility rules, which state that joint ventures will no longer score points for the bigger club.
There was also some speculation that Team Falcons might buy the AP Bren franchise directly instead so that the former could keep the latter's main roster into its fold, but it is now likely that Team Falcons will enter MPL PH through the route RSG PH will leave.
Meanwhile, the entire RSG group hinted that they might be venturing at another esports title for its "second phase".
"Every end has a new beginning, Phase 1 is now completed. See you in the next game," the club's statement concluded.
