Zamboanga Valientes join DIBC, Kyt Jimenez announced as 1st major recruit

MANILA--Make that two Philippine teams in this year's Dubai International Basketball Championship.

The Zamboanga Valientes confirmed on Friday night that they will participate in the invitational tournament from Jan. 24 to Feb. 2, joining Strong Group Athletics.

Zamboanga then hinted during the announcement that one of the players coming in is Kyt Jimenez.

Jimenez formalized his entry with the team after a meeting with team owner Junnie Navarro on Saturday.

The Valientes then said that two UAAP stars would backstop them, one of them was revealed to be the  University of Santo Tomas' Forthsky Padrigao as first reported by Spin.PH's Gerry Ramos.

The DIBC would be the first of at least two tournaments Zamboanga will be a part of for 2025 following a banner 2024 highlighted by winning the TAT Grand Finals right at its home, the Vitaliano Agan Coliseum in Zamboanga City.

"Our performance in The Asian Tournament showcased the talent and determination of Zamboangueños. I believe we are more than ready to take on more international tournaments in the coming year," Navarro said.

Former NBA superstar DeMarcus Cousins suited for the Valientes during that successful homestand, but he is set to play for SGA in the DIBC.
