MANILA--The company that will bankroll the returning Basilan Steel franchise in the MPBL is already setting its sights in the PBA.

Insiders confirmed multiple reports on Friday that Starhorse Shipping Lines plans to join Asia's premier play-for-pay basketball league and is looking to acquire the franchise currently held by Terrafirma.

Starhorse already sent a letter of intent to join the PBA, and a meeting took place between top officials from the shipping company and the realty group along with commissioner Willie Marcial about a potential transfer of franchise ownership.

Once the franchise transfer is approved, Starhorse would likely need to pay around PHP100 million in transfer fee to make it official.

If Terrafirma indeed gives up its PBA franchise to Starhorse, the latter can absorb the current Dyip roster lock stock and barrel as soon as Season 50 beginning on Oct. 5.

For now, Starhorse's focus is on building up Basilan for the new MPBL season that will start on March 8 at The Capital Arena in Ilagan City.

Among the key players for the Steel are Jeff Viernes, Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Emman Calo, Gab Dagangon, Enzo Navarro, Sherwin Concepcion, and Jervy Cruz.
