BINAN--Kaya Iloilo will not leave the Shopee Cup winless.
On Thursday night, the team capped its regional tournament debut with a 2-0 win against Lion City Sailors at the Binan Football Stadium.
Lucas Del Rosario's entry turned out to be beneficial for Kaya Iloilo as the substitute, only a few minutes after coming in, drilled in the opening goal in the 65th minute, following up on Shuto Komaki's attempt was saved by Zharfan Rohaizad.
In his return to the pitch he once called home, former Stallion Laguna star Jhan-Jhan Melliza converted a penalty in the 71st minute to seal Kaya Iloilo's win.
Although the result did not shake up the bottom of the Group A table as the host will finish in last place, Kaya Iloilo can hold its head up high with its first-ever win in Southeast Asia's biggest club battle.
