MANILA—Another NorthPort player is in hot water after a reported altercation as Fran Yu found himself in the spotlight for the wrong reason.
According to a CCTV footage obtained by ABS-CBN News' Jessie Cruzat on Tuesday, Yu was seen having a verbal altercation with a barangay tanod just outside the Vertex One building along Felix Huertas St. in Barangay 350, Sta. Cruz district.
The community cop fell down the gutter while still talking to Yu, prompting the other tanods on duty and even barangay councilor Victorino Farrales to step in thinking that Yu may have nudged their fellow worker.
A few minutes later, Yu's father intervened, leading to a tussle between him and Farrales which was quickly stopped by cooler heads.
Asked about his side of the story, the NorthPort guard, in an interview with ABS-CBN News' Rom Anzures, admitted that he indeed had a confrontation with a barangay tanod over parking issues but denied that he pushed the tanod down.
Yu added that some witnesses eating lunch at the Mang Inasal restaurant just at the Vertex One entrance can attest to his claim.
This is the second time someone from the Batang Pier camp was involved in a heated moment this year as they are still reeling from the aftermath of John Amores' controversial tussle in Lumban, Laguna last year.
Last January, NorthPort governor Erick Arejola was involved in a post-game brawl between La Salle Zobel and Arandia College in an NBTC qualifier game in Las Pinas.
However, Yu's situation came at a time when the Batang Pier are gearing up for the PBA Commissioner's Cup semifinals next week.
