MANILA—Alex Eala continued her dream run at the WTA 1000 Miami Open with a commanding 6-4, 6-2 victory over World No. 5 and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys early Monday (Philippine Time).

The win came just two days after Eala upset World No. 25 Jelena Ostapenko in the second round.

Eala controlled the match from the baseline, attacking Keys’ second serve and dictating the rallies.

Her aggressive play forced the American into multiple errors, allowing Eala to close out the second set in dominant fashion.

Eala is now the first Filipino woman in the Open Era to defeat a Top 10 opponent since the WTA rankings were introduced in 1975.

With the victory, Eala moves on to the Round of 16, where she will face World No. 10 Paula Badosa of Spain.

Eala’s latest win also boosts her live WTA ranking to No. 117.
