Aurora finally got one against Onic PH. MPL Philippines |
MANILA--After everything that transpired on Friday night, coach Tony "Ynot" Senedrin already anticipated that someday, Onic Philippines' supposed "invincibility" would be shattered quickly.
"There was a time na Liquid at AP Bren yung malakas, pero tinalo namin sila. Possibly pwedeng mangyari sa amin yan ngayon, so if we're not focused and on our toes, especially pagdating sa training, if hindi kami mag-connect, susunod na kami," Senedrin said after escaping a gigantic upset bid from TNC to open its MPL Philippine title defense.
The following evening, however, the early breach to Onic PH's dominance happened against the team that has been eyeing revenge since losing the Season 14 finals.
Aurora finally broke past Onic PH with a 2-1 win in their early national championship round rematch at the Green Sun Hotel Ballroom in Makati.
The deciding factor came in Game 3, when Aurora decided to go for the brawl meta, leading to a 12-6 advantage in kills and a 3,500-plus gold advantage despite giving up the first two turtles as the team wiped out Onic PH during the third turtle clash.
Furthermore, Aurora's tank players, Renejay Bacarse and Edward Dapadap, already established enough early game brilliance for their Hylos and Edith, respectively, to hold their forth in the late game.
Onic PH had a chance to turn things around after taking four Aurora players down in the team fight at the top lane inhibitor turret while forcing Dapadap to retreat with only a few health points left, but Onic PH lost three players in the process that slowed them down too.
Eventually, Aurora completed the business after taking the second Lord, wiping out Onic PH at their base to seal the win.
This was Aurora's first head-to-head win against Onic PH in five tries since acquiring the Minana Evos franchise.
Aurora ended its opening weekend campaign with a 2-0 record while dropping Onic PH to a tie with TNC at 1-1.
