MANILA--Gilas Pilipinas' men's 3x3 team missed its chance to make it to the main draw of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup after succumbing to India, 11-21, in their final qualifying draw game on Thursday in Singapore.
Gilas slowly lost steam mid-game as India put its height advantage to good use and forced Gilas to costly errors while successfully keeping Jeff Manday, who has been stellar for the Filipinos, in check.
Harsh Dagar led India with 10 points, scoring the team's last seven markers, while Pranav Prince added six, Kushal Singh contributed three, and Arvind Muthu had two.
Manday led Gilas with four points, Anton Eusebio put up three, and Joseph Sedurifa and JJ Manlangit got two each.
Both Gilas and India took down Macau and South Korea in their matches on Wednesday, setting up this battle for the last spot in Pool B to join China and Chinese Taipei.
The men's team's elimination leaves the women's team as the only quartet left to represent Gilas in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup.
The Gilas girls got an automatic berth to the main draw as the fifth seed and will play Australia and whoever tops the qualifying draw group between Indonesia, Macau, Turkmenistan, and Papua New Guinea in Pool D on Friday night.
As of posting, Indonesia and Macau scored their first wins to take a step closer to the main draw.
