Changwon celebrated Cho Sang-Hyun's 100th win as head coach after scoring four triples in the last 47 seconds to stun Ulsan. Changwon LG Sakers |
MANILA--Assem Marei hit a buzzer-beater three-point dagger as Changwon survived Ulsan, 84-81, in their home turf, the Changwon Gymnasium, on Friday night to secure the second spot in the KBL standings.
Marei led the team to force extra time and eventually nailed a clutch hit from rainbow country off the backboard in the dying seconds to help the Sakers outlast the visiting Phoebus.
Marei led Changwon, which broke a tie with Ulsan, with 24 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, one block, and two steals.
Filipino import Carl Tamayo provided the much-needed boost for Changwon as he stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 dimes as he helped Cho Sang-Hyun win his 100th game as head coach.
Mobis Phoebus import Shawn Long's double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds was put to waste as their three-game winning streak also ended.
The Sakers will try to defend their spot against the fourth-ranked Suwon KT Sonicboom, who are currently on a roll with five straight wins.
On the other hand, the Wonju DB Promy also halted their three-game losing skid against league-leading Seoul SK Knights, 88-80, at the Jamsil Student Gymnasium in Seoul.
Fil-Am Ethan Alvano had a steady outing as he went for 23 points and 5 boards for Wonju.
