QUEZON CITY--ONE Championship decided not to push through with its scheduled Friday Fights card at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok due to a major earthquake that jolted Thailand and Myanmar.
While the Thai capital is far from the earthquake's epicenter in Mandalay, Myanmar, the impact of the magnitude 7.7 quake was still felt there, and a skyscraper under construction totally collapsed during the trembling.
"We regret to inform you that due to the recent earthquake in Myanmar and its effects on Bangkok, tonight's ONE Friday Fights 102 has been canceled. Our thoughts are with everyone affected," ONE said in a statement.
Three Filipinos were supposed to fight on the said card: Marwin Quirante, Jean Claude Saclag, and Islay Bomogao.
Bomogao assured her fans that she is alright after the earthquake.
"Today's fight is off due to the terrible earthquake here in Thailand and Myanmar. My heart goes out to everyone affected. I'm really hoping that those who need help get it quickly. My team and I are safe, thankfully. In the meantime, let's all remember to support disaster relief efforts in any way we can," she said in a separate statement.
ONE has yet to decide, as of posting, if the entire fight card will be rescheduled to a later date or distributed to the next Friday Fights events.
It is also possible that Bomogao's upcoming bout against Nerea Rubio could be played either on a ONE Fight Night event or even a pay-per-view card since she has already secured a contract to be part of the promotion's main roster.
