MANILA--The Philippine Football Federation announced late Saturday night that Albert Capellas' vital role as head coach for the Philippine Men's National Football Team came to an end.
In a statement, Capellas said that he is thankful for a fruitful eight-month stint with the PMNFT.
"My wonderful journey as head coach of the Philippine National Football Federation has come to an end and I want to express my gratitude to all those who have been part of it, especially the players and all the staff involved," Capellas gratefully stated.
He then expressed his thanksgiving to Freddy Gonzalez, PFF's director of national teams, and John Gutierrez, the president of the federation.
Gonzalez said that Capellas left the team due to personal reasons, but "out of great respect for him, we will not elaborate."
Capellas earned four wins in his managerial statistics from Sept. 10, 2024 until his departure announcement.
"Together, we have enjoyed an inspiring journey and have proven that Filipino football has a promising generation of young players with the potential to bring great pride and success to the country," he further said.
His stint included the wonderful campaign of the PMNFT in the 2024-2025 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup where he sustained two wins, including their famous historic win against Thailand which ended their 52-year drought against the War Elephants.
"I am sincerely grateful for the time we have shared and for the support and kindness I’ve received from the entire Filipino football community. I will always carry these memories with me and wish the Federation and the team continued growth and success in the years to come," he ended with a gratitude.
The PMNFT's win against Maldives will be Capellas' last appearance as his assistant, Spanish mentor Charles Cuadrat, takes over everything in an interim basis prior to the team's AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers match against Tajikistan on June 10.
