MANILA--Alex Eala fell short of completing a comeback from a rough first set and bowed out of the French Open women's singles after losing to Colombian opponent Emiliana Arango, 0-6, 6-2, 3-6, on Sunday at Roland-Garros in Paris.

Eala appeared to have shrugged off a dismal Set 1, where Arango blanked her, after pulling away right after a rain suspension to take Set 2.

However, Arango regained her poise in the deciding set and went up, 3-1, almost midway through.

Eala closed the gap to 4-3, but Arango won the next two games to finish off her foe.

Arango, who entered the French Open ranked 88th in the world, essentially pulled off an upset against the world number 69 Eala.

However, up next for Arango is world number eight Zheng Qinwen of China, who deposed Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Eala's first-ever grand slam stint in the senior ranks is not yet done as she teams up with Mexico's Renata Zarazua in the women's doubles beginning with a Tuesday showdown against the duo of Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
