LAOAG--After two days of grueling quests for gold, the National Capital Region (NCR) still held onto the driver’s seat over CALABARZON at the medal tally of the Palarong Pambansa 2025 here.

As of 7:42 p.m. Tuesday, the Metrostars now have a total of 27 golds, 16 silvers, and 8 bronzes to secure the top spot, followed by the IV-A Heroes with 17 golds, 23 silvers, and 8 bronzes.

Among the bright spots for CALABARZON was Reinielle Trinidad, who set the new record in the secondary boys 50-meter butterfly swimming event after winning the gold at 25.23 seconds.

Not only are NCR and CALABARZON showing their grit for the crown, Northern Mindanao athletes also had a solid outing in their respective matches today as they barged into the third spot of the tally with 12 golds, 10 silvers, and 13 bronze medals.

CARAGA is fourth with an 8-3-9 record, while Western Visayas is fifth with 7-15-9.

Central Visayas is currently in sixth place with 4-6-10, while the Cordillera Administrative Region is seventh with 4-5-1.

Host region Ilocos also had a rough Day 2 and is in 13th place with 2-4-4, followed by neighboring Cagayan Valley with 1-2-3.

The National Academy of Sports got its first gold of the 2025 edition from taekwondo jin Austine Macaraeg in the secondary girls poomsae freestyle individual event, even as the team from the Capas-based sports school now has one silver and two bronzes as well.

MIMAROPA is the only other region with a gold already, thanks to Puerto Princesa-based elementary boys' blitz champion Carmelo Yanong.

The Zamboanga Peninsula now has one silver and one bronze, while the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao now has two bronzes to show.

Only the Philippine Schools Overseas team remains without a medal after two days of competition.
