LAOAG--Western Visayas reintroduced their name into the Palarong Pambansa basketball lore after halting the National Capital Region Metro Stars’ three-peat title dreams through a 76-67 shocker in their quarterfinal match on Thursday at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena.
WVRAA, represented by St. Robert’s International Academy, cruised past host R1AA, 74-60, on Wednesday and continued their momentum with the shocker against the defending champs, represented by former UAAP high school boys basketball champion NU-Nazareth School.
NCR’s flawless record in the elimination round came to naught despite easily dispatching EVIRAA, NMRAA, and BRAA in Group A following the shock loss to Western Visayas, which finished with a 3-1 record in their own group.
