QUEZON CITY—Pedro Taduran remains the IBF minimumweight champion after outboxing former champ Ginjiro Shigeoka in their Saturday rematch at Intex Osaka.
Although there was no finish from either boxer in the sequel to Taduran's major upset against Shigeoka, the Filipino star still did enough to prove that his earlier knockout of the Japanese former champ last year was not a fluke.
One judge had it 115-113 for Shigeoka, but another judge gave the same scoreline in favor of Taduran.
The decider was a 118-110 scorecard favoring Taduran, who stretched his winning streak to four and moved up to 18-4-1.
Shigeoka, on the other hand, has now lost back-to-back bouts, both against Taduran, after an 11-0 start.
Worse, Shigeoka, just like in their first meeting, fainted after the bout and was stretchered out of the ring, although he quickly regained consciousness.
