MANILA--Burly big man Germy Mahinay could get his second chance at professional basketball as he is set to make a return to the MPBL.
People knowledgeable of the situation confirmed to Dugout Philippines that the six-foot-seven center is now cleared to play again after an infamous unsportsmanlike foul last year.
Mahinay met with top MPBL officials on Thursday night during the tripleheader at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig to discuss the steps for reinstatement.
The league slapped Mahinay with an indefinite suspension for a hard foul on Joey Barcuma in an April 22, 2024 game between Negros and Zamboanga at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan.
NorthPort still took a chance at Mahinay and drafted him in the fifth round of last year's PBA Draft, but with the Games and Amusements Board also penalizing him with an indefinite suspension from playing any pro league, he was left unsigned.
However, according to one source, GAB already lifted the ban on Mahinay, and in effect, the MPBL also ended theirs.
With the Muscovados taking a leave of absence for this season, Mahinay is linked to a move to the Pasay Voyagers.
Mahinay could be activated on Monday night, when Pasay hosts GenSan at the Cuneta Astrodome.
