MANILA--Former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson still believes Charly Suarez was robbed of a win against Emanuel Navarrete for the WBO junior lightweight title on May 11.
However, Singson, now Suarez's manager, respects the California State Athletic Commission's decision to only overturn the controversial bout into a no contest even if they wanted to count it as a Suarez technical knockout win.
“It’s not the decision that we wanted and what Charly deserved. We still believe na nadaya si Charly. But we will abide by the decision. At least, hindi man si Charly ang declared na winner, binawi din ang panalo kay Navarrete,” Singson said in a statement on Tuesday, hours after news broke out about the CSAC ruling.
WBO is now setting up the immediate rematch between Navarrete and Suarez, which could happen sometime after Navarrete's medical suspension ends by July 9.
Singson said Suarez is ready to face off with Navarrete again at any given setting.
“We will prepare for the rematch. Charly wants the rematch. The fans want to see that happen. Anytime, anywhere tayo,” Singson said.
