Jordon Varnado makes a jump from one Basketball Champions League to another as he headlines Meralco's BCL Asia imports. |
MANILA--Three foreign players who recently saw action in Europe have been named as Meralco's imports for the Basketball Champions League Asia starting on Saturday in Dubai.
The Bolts announced on Wednesday the signing of Jordon Varnado, Glynn Watson, and John Egbunu to backstop them in their second stint in the tournament formerly known as the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
Varnado, listed at six feet six inches, last played for Promitheas Patras in the Greek league, averaging 12.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and one block per game.
He already has BCL experience as Patras made last season's BCL Europe campaign, averaging 10.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and one block per night.
Varnado is expected to deliver from the outside as he went 40 percent on triples in BCL Europe.
Watson, on the other hand, played in the French league for Gravelines, and like Varnado, he once played as well in Greece, taking over the spot vacated by former NBA star Ty Lawson at Kolossos Rodou in 2021.
The six-foot point guard averaged 16.3 points, four rebounds, four assists, and one steal per game at Gravelines last season, and in one game last April, he erupted for 48 points in a triple-overtime win against Limoges.
Meanwhile, Egbunu, who last played for Napoli in the Italian league, has some experience playing in the Asian league as he was once an import for Busan in the KBL and Ningbo and Shanghai in the CBA.
The 6-foot-11 center averaged 7.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last year with Napoli.
