MANILA--There was a milestone alert in Saturday night's PBA Philippine Cup game between San Miguel and Rain or Shine.
June Mar Fajardo entered the game tied with PBA legend Jerry Codinera for the most offensive rebounds in the league with 2,411.
With 4:33 left in the first quarter, Fajardo recovered the ball after Adrian Nocum blocked CJ Perez's layup attempt and scored the putback.
PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon confirmed that it was Fajardo's 2,412th offensive glass, enough to become the PBA's new king in the said statistic.
The 6-foot-10 Cebuano giant would grab three more offensive boards to hike his total to 2,415 after 510 games in 11 seasons.
Codinera, one of Magnolia's direct hires when it entered the league in 1988 as Purefoods, retired with 2,411 across 871 games in 17 seasons that also featured stops with TNT and FedEx.
With Fajardo still on top of his game at age 35, he is on track to amass 2,500 offensive rebounds next season, although it is also possible that he reaches the said milestone late in this conference's playoffs.
