Liquid PH lifts the MPL Philippines Immortal Cup. Joseph Sanvictores |
MAKATI--Team Liquid Philippines returned to the MPL Philippines apex after taking Onic Philippines out of the throne with a tight 4-3 win in the grand finals on Sunday night at the Green Sun Hotel Ballroom.
A draft strategy to pick both Chip for Jaypee Dela Cruz and Luo Yi for Alston "Sanji" Pabico turned out to be a genius move for Liquid PH, as they set up Kiel "Oheb" Soriano's mid-to-late game brilliance by holding Duane "Kelra" Pillas at bay early on.
Onic PH thought they had a chance to mount a comeback as King "Kingkong" Perez was heating up remained unscathed during the late game, but Liquid PH's aggressive push at the middle lane with the Lord led to the finish.
The club formerly known as Echo won its third MPL Philippines title in five seasons, all of which occurred during the first season of the year.
What makes the Season 15 chip more valuable is that Liquid PH also became the first winner of the new MPL Philippines Immortal Cup.
Pabico was later named Finals MVP and the first winner of the My Greatest Teammate award.
Both Liquid PH and Onic PH shift their attention to the upcoming MLBB Midseason Cup during the Esports World Cup this July in Riyadh.
