TAGUIG--Rowing president Pato Gregorio is now set to take over the Philippine Sports Commission as its new chairman.
Executive secretary Lucas Bersamin and an official from the PSC confirmed on Saturday the report first broke out by radio station DWIZ late Friday night.
Gregorio, who once led the PBA board of governors as chairman during its 40th season from 2014-2015, will replace Dickie Bachmann, who like Gregorio was also a part of the PBA board before.
Bachmann served the PSC as its leader for two and a half years, overseeing the Philippines' hosting of the FIBA World Cup as one of the members of the inter-agency task force and also the successful stint of the Philippine team to the Paris Olympics led by Carlos Yulo's gymnastics double gold.
This time, Gregorio is stepping in with six months left before the Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok.
Gregorio will be the third PSC chief under president Bongbong Marcos' administration after renowned sportscaster Noli Eala and Bachmann.
