MANILA--Rain Or Shine nearly fell prey to Terrafirma's spoiler bid but still prevailed, 94-85, in their PBA Philippine Cup clash on Wednesday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
In the only game in the scheduled doubleheader that still had some impact in the quarterfinal seedings, the Elasto Painters nearly blew a huge lead but still recovered in time to hold off the Dyip.
ROS surged in the third quarter to open a 73-55 at the end of the period, but Terrafirma stormed back early in the fourth and cut the lead down to three, 81-78, with 4:51 to play.
The Dyip eventually ran out of steam as the Elasto Painters went on a 13-5 run within the final three minutes to seal the win.
Jhonard Clarito led ROS's balanced attack with 12 points, five rebounds, one assist, and three steals as the team moved up to 6-3, tying Ginebra for the fourth and last seed with a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals starting June 18.
Andrei Caracut added 11 points, two rebounds, and one assist.
Louie Sangalang led also-ran Terrafirma, which dropped to 1-9, with 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
Stanley Pringle, who became the 100th member of the PBA's 5,000 Points Club, added 18 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
The team is now down to one game left in its stint in the PBA, a Sunday night showdown against Blackwater.
